NBA Playoffs Betting Odds

We’ve discussed where you can bet on NBA Playoffs, but what can you actually bet on? In this section, we’re going to explore your NBA Playoffs betting options and the key markets attached.

Betting On A Single Game

One of the most popular ways to bet on NBA Playoffs is to bet on individual games. The most common NBA Playoffs betting lines on a single game are the following:

  • Moneyline Betting
  • Total Points
  • Point Spread

Moneyline

Let’s take a closer look at NBA Playoffs betting on Moneyline odds. Betting on Moneyline means you’re betting on the result, in other words, who you think will win the game. Generally, Moneyline odds includes Over Time, too, though this can also be a separate market.

As an example, we’ll use the NBA Playoffs game between Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs. Denver are -225 to win the game, with San Antonio Spurs priced at +185.

So, if you think Denver Nuggets will win the game, you place your bet at the odds of -225, for Spurs, +185.

Total Points Over/Under

Total Points Over/Under is another straightforward way of NBA Playoffs betting. It can also offer more flexibility than betting on Moneyline odds.

Each NBA bookmaker will offer a Total Points amount. This number represents the total number of points scored by either side, in a game. A Total Points Over/Under bet is exactly that, betting on over or under the Total Points number given.

Let’s use the game between the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors as our next example. 888Sport have set the Total Points level at 216.5. Betting on Over 216.5 Total Points has odds of -108, with Under 216.5 Total Points at -113.

Most bookmakers have NBA Playoffs betting odds with numerous potential Points totals. There are also variations on this market, for instance you can find individual team Total Points markets at most NBA bookmakers.

Points Spread

Onto Points Spread Betting. Points Spread can be a little confusing if you’re new to betting on the sport, but once you’ve understood the concept you will be able to judge the betting value easily.

In its most basic terms, the Point Spread is the bookmaker’s guess at how many points a team will win or lose by. We’ll use the game between LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors for this example.

Now, the LA Clippers are priced at -109 for a Points Spread of +12.5. Simply put, if you place this wager, the Clippers will need to win the game or not lose it by more than the Points stated. So, if GSW win by ten points, you’ll still win your bet. If Golden State Warriors win by more than 12.5 Points, your bet will lose.

Betting On A Series

Betting on a Series can provide plenty of betting value. Series Betting includes markets like Correct Score and Handicap Betting.

Each round at the start of the NBA Playoffs is made up of a best-of-seven series. Betting on a Series Correct Score can offer much more betting value than placing a wager on an Outright Series Winner. Let’s take the match-up between Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics for this example.

The Celtics are favorites to progress to the next round. In the Series Winner market, you’re unlikely to find odds better than -500 on Boston to win. But, with a Correct Series Score bet, much more value can be had.

Let’s say you think Boston Celtics will win the Series 4-1. The odds on this bet will far exceed a standard Series bet.

Series Winner

A Series Winner bet may have shorter odds, but they are easier to win. Betting on the Winner market is the most common way to bet on a Series. You should be able to find Series Winner odds at most NBA bookmakers.

You can also place Spread Bets on the Series Winner market. For instance, if you believe that Boston Celtics will win the Series, you can place a wager on Celtics to win by a selected number of games.

Exact Series Result

We touched upon this market earlier. Odds on the Exact Series Result are generally much higher than other NBA Playoffs betting odds. The main reason for this is that these bets are much more difficult to win.

There are variations to this market. Combination Series Result markets are available, such as Boston Celtics to win the Series 4-0, 4-1 or 4-2. This gives you greater flexibility, but a reduction in odds.

Total Games

Placing a wager on Total Games is also an NBA Playoffs betting option. You can bet on variations of this market, including the exact number of games in a Series, Total Games Over/Under and Handicap.

NBA Playoffs Betting Predictions

With such a huge sporting event, there are plenty of NBA Playoffs predictions available for you to take inspiration from. There are a number of NBA Finals predictions sites on the internet which can help you form a better opinion of the odds on offer.

The key to betting on the NBA Playoffs successfully is to expand your knowledge. Research each game thoroughly. Check out the latest team news, injury news and current form before you place any bet.

The Favorites

Naturally, the Golden State Warriors are clear favorites to retain their crown for the third year running. They earned the best record in the Western Conference, clinching the Division title at the end of March with a 57-25 record.

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks have been the stand-out team in the NBA, though. The Bucks clinched the Eastern Conference title in March and earning a Playoff spot at the start of the month. Milwaukee have the best record in the NBA this season, with a record of 60-22.

According to the current NBA Championship odds, the Bucks are second favorite to win the Finals. Coming up in third are the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors finished second in the Eastern Conference, and are clear favorites to progress to the Second Round.

Likewise, the Houston Rockets only finished fourth in the Western Conference, but the two-times Champions shouldn’t be underestimated. They’ve performed well in recent NBA Playoffs series, and a good run here wouldn’t be a surprise.

Also, the Boston Celtics have been NBA Champions an unprecedented 17 times. They haven’t won since 2008, though, but many expect the Celtics to reach the Conference Final at least. Injuries are a concern, though, and this could scupper Boston’s chances of their first NBA title in 11 years.

The Outsiders

Philly’s 76ers go into the NBA Playoffs with a good 51-31 record. They’re expected to be without Joel Embiid for the first game against the Nets, but presuming he comes back fit and well the 76ers could be this year’s surprise package.

Also, Oklahoma City Thunder are another side capable of causing a surprise in this year’s NBA Playoffs. They may only be seeded sixth, but Thunder had a great end to the season. If Oklahoma can take that form into the Playoffs, they’re likely to go far.

Onto Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets have a young side, but do possess some pretty hot talent. While experience may not be on their side this year, there’s few who can rule them out of reaching the Conference Semi’s at the least.

Portland Trailblazers are the third seed from the Western Conference, but many are expecting Portland to be defeated in the First Round with a tough draw against Thunder. If they manage to overcome Oklahoma, expect odds to dramatically shorten on the Trailblazers to achieve to Conference Finals win.

The Rest

Maybe you fancy the NBA Playoffs betting lines offered on San Antonio Spurs? Utah Jazz, Brooklyn Nets, Orlando Magic, LA Clippers, Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers make up the rest of the Playoffs lineup. At this stage, it’s difficult to rule out any side progressing from the First Round at least. We’re going to give your our NBA Finals predictions shortly.

First Round Match-Ups: NBA Finals Predictions

Let’s take a closer look at each First Round tie. These are our NBA Playoffs predictions before any action has taken place.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Detroit Pistons

It’s difficult to see past a clean sweep for Milwaukee in this one. They’ve been in fine form all season and that’s likely to continue against the Pistons side who just scraped in.

Toronto Raptors vs Orlando Magic

This should be closer than the Bucks v Pistons tie, but it’s still likely Toronto will progress through with relative ease. Magic have talent for sure, but the Raptors should have too much for the side from Orlando.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Brooklyn Nets

For such a young side, the Nets have done extremely well in qualifying for the Playoffs as seventh seed. They’re certainly capable of causing Philly problems and could take a game or two from them, but it’s the 76ers who should progress here.

Boston Celtics vs Indiana Pacers

After finishing first and second in the Eastern Conference in the previous two campaigns, this season will go down as somewhat of a disappointment for the Celtics. Still, they’re fourth seed and up against the Pacers side who struggled slightly in the second half of the regular season.

This tie is the most difficult to call in the First Round. Boston Celtics have been inconsistent, but if they can find some form they could progress easily.

Golden State Warriors vs Los Angeles Clippers

We’re going from the toughest tie to call to probably the easiest, as GSW take on LA Clippers. The reigning Champions are expected to breeze through the eighth seed. The Clippers have had a great season, but, unless there’s a shock of gigantic proportions, expect it to end here.

Denver Nuggets vs San Antonio Spurs

Despite the Seed difference, this could be a closer tie than many are expecting. Spurs are far from walkovers, and Denver will have to be at the top of their game to progress here.

Portland Trail Blazers vs Oklahoma City Thunder

Portland are the higher seed, but OKC are the most likely to progress to the next round. The Trail Blazers possess talent, that’s obvious, and have enjoyed a good season. But this is Thunder, and many are expecting them to go all the way. Coming into this one on a great run, it’s hard to look past Thunder for the Series win.

Houston Rockets vs Utah Jazz

This is a tough one. Utah Jazz had the best defensive record in the NBA last season, but the Houston Rockets played well consistently too. This could go right to the wire, with the Rockets just edging out Jazz in the end.

Bet on NBA Playoffs

The NBA provides huge levels of excitement for viewers and bettors alike. Each First Round match-up should be great to watch, and all will provide excellent NBA Playoff betting opportunities.

If you’re looking for the best bookmakers to bet on NBA Playoffs betting lines, we discussed our top picks in the table at the top of this article. We’d certainly look at what PointsBet, SugarHouse and Resorts have to offer, along with 888.

Final Picks For NBA Playoffs Betting

If you ask basketball fans who will win the NBA Finals, most will reply with the Golden State Warriors. They’re favorites for a good reason, of course, but it’s worth checking out other sides who could cause a stir.

With our NBA Playoffs predictions, we believe that Milwaukee Bucks have as good a chance as any, considering the superb regular season they’ve enjoyed. They’re fairly priced, too, and it’s worth looking at the NBA Championship odds for the Bucks to win their second NBA title.

Boston Celtics are an outside choice, but if the Celtics can progress from their First Round tie and find some consistency at last, expect them to be challenging.
